Former Chairs and Board Members

Bill Gradison was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a founding member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, which was created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. He was reappointed in August 2004. He was Acting Chairman from December 2005 to July 2006. He served until January 2011.

Charles D. Niemeier was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a founding member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in October 2002 and reappointed in October 2003. He was Acting Chairman of the Board from January to June 2003. He served until January 2011.

Daniel L. Goelzer was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a founding member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in October 2002 and reappointed in July 2007. He was Acting Chairman of the PCAOB from August 2009 through January 2011. He served until March 2012.

Duane M. DesParte was appointed as a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2017 and sworn in on April 9, 2018. He was reappointed in May 2019. He was designated as Acting Chairperson from June 2021 to January 2022. He served until October 2023.

J. Robert Brown was appointed as a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2017, sworn in on February 1, 2018, and served until January 2021.

James G. Kaiser was appointed as a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2017, sworn in on March 1, 2018, and served until November 2020.

James R. Doty was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as the Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in January 2011 and served until January 2018.

​Jay D. Hanson was appointed to be a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in January 2011 and reappointed in March 2013. He served until December 2016.

Jeanette M. Franzel was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in February 2012 and served until January 2018.

Kathleen M. Hamm was appointed a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2017, sworn in on January 2018, and served until November 2019.

Kayla J. Gillan was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a founding member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in October 2002 and reappointed in June 2006. She served until January 2008.

Lewis H. Ferguson was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to be a member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in January 2011, and reappointed in 2015, serving until January 2018.

Mark W. Olson became Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in June 2006. He served until July 2009.

Megan Zietsman was appointed as a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in October 2020 and sworn in on November 20, 2020. She served until October 2021.

Rebekah Goshorn Jurata was appointed as a Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in October 2019 and sworn in on November 4, 2019. She served until October 2021.

Steven B. Harris served two terms as a Board member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He was appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission in June 2008 and reappointed in March 2013. He served until January 2018.

William D. Duhnke III was appointed Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board by the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2017 and sworn in on January 2, 2018. He served until June 2021.

William J. McDonough became Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board on June 11, 2003. He served until November 2005.
