Joanne O'Rourke Hindman is special advisor to Board Member Steven B. Harris. In this role, she advises Mr. Harris on all matters that come before the Board. She also helps manage the Investor Advisory Group, which Mr. Harris chairs. Previously, she served as special advisor to both Board Member Kayla J. Gillan and Board Member Daniel L. Goelzer. Under the leadership of Ms. Gillan, and later Mr. Goelzer, Ms. O'Rourke Hindman developed and managed the Board's first Forums on Auditing in the Small Business Environment, which debuted in 2004.
Prior to joining the PCAOB, Ms. O'Rourke Hindman was executive vice president of operations for the National American Red Cross and chief executive officer for a public safety software development company. In addition, she has served as the chief financial officer for several companies in the fields of publishing, telecommunications, software development and the internet. During her tenure with The Washington Post Company, she served as the top financial officer of Newsweek magazine and as the General Manager of Newsweek InterActive during its pioneering venture into internet publishing. Ms. O'Rourke Hindman is a certified public accountant with significant public accounting experience including positions held at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she served as an audit manager, and Ernst and Young.
Ms. O'Rourke Hindman currently serves as a faculty member for the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) In-Boardroom Training Program in addition to sitting on the board of the Capital Area Chapter of NACD, where she previously served as president. Ms. O'Rourke Hindman also recently served as a Trustee of the E.L. Haynes Charter School in Washington DC.
Ms. O'Rourke Hindman holds a Certificate of Director Education from NACD and is a recipient of a 2005 Leadership Award from the National Capital Area Chapter of NACD. In 2005, she was also named one of Business Finance Magazine's Fifty Top Influencers.
Ms. O'Rourke Hindman received a B.B.A. in Accounting, magna cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts.
