Karen Buck Burgess

Ms. Burgess provides advice and counsel on standard-setting activities in the Office of the Chief Auditor. Her duties include coordinating the review of projects with the Office of General Counsel as well as interacting with Board members and other Board staff on legal matters relating to standard-setting activities.

Prior to joining the Board in October 2011, Ms. Burgess spent more than 25 years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). At the SEC, she held a variety of senior legal positions, including Associate General Counsel, Counsel to the Chairman, and Senior Adviser to the Director in the Office of Compliance, Inspections, and Examinations. Ms. Burgess received several awards at the SEC recognizing her work, including the Distinguished Service Award, the SEC's highest honor.

Earlier in her career, she worked at Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong and Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in Tokyo, Japan.

Ms. Burgess is a graduate of Oberlin College and received her J.D. from the Antioch School of Law.
