PCAOB Accepting Enforcement Tips Through Web Site and Toll-Free Number

Washington, D.C., Aug. 24, 2004

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board today began accepting enforcement tips and complaints through a new form on its Web site and a toll-free number. The new system allows individuals to more easily provide the PCAOB with information concerning any matter relating to the PCAOB and its work under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

“As the recent scandals have shown, individuals with integrity do often step up and take a stand when they see misconduct taking place.” said Claudius Modesti, PCAOB Director of Enforcement and Investigations. “We want to make sure that these individuals have an easily accessible way of reporting any information that they might have.”

Information can now be provided to the PCAOB via an online form, email, or at 800-741-3158.

The PCAOB is interested in receiving:

  • tips on potential violations by a registered public accounting firm or its associated persons, of the Act, the rules of the PCAOB or other applicable law;
  • information that may be relevant to a PCAOB inspection of a registered public accounting firm; and
  • any other information that may be relevant to the work of the PCAOB.

All information submitted will be thoroughly reviewed and evaluated so that the appropriate PCAOB office can respond and take action accordingly. Information can be provided anonymously.
