PCAOB Advances Strategic Planning Process With Request for Comment on Draft 2026-2030 Goals and Objectives

WASHINGTON, Jul. 20, 2026

At an open meeting held today, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) issued a request for public comment on draft goals and objectives for the PCAOB’s 2026-2030 strategic plan.

The PCAOB’s strategic plan serves as a roadmap for the PCAOB’s activities and is used to develop the PCAOB’s budget each year. Specifically, the strategic plan aligns the Board’s programs, operations, and activities with its overall mission to protect investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate, and independent audit reports.

“The PCAOB’s strategic priorities, goals, and objectives represent a unified approach to strengthening our investor-protection mission and guiding our work across the organization,” said Chairman Demetrios (Jim) Logothetis. “Receiving stakeholder feedback at this stage will help ensure that our final 2026–2030 Strategic Plan is both ambitious and practical—one that advances audit quality, enhances transparency, and positions the PCAOB to meet the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly evolving environment not only over the next five years, but well into the future.”

Request for Comment Builds on March 2026 Call for Input on Strategic Priorities

On March 31, the Board asked the public to provide input on what the PCAOB’s strategic priorities should be. Informed by analysis of those perspectives, as well as the views provided by experts serving on the PCAOB’s advisory groups, the PCAOB identified three reinforcing priorities:

  • Advance Audit Quality and Investor Protection
  • Clarify Expectations and Our Bases for Decisions Leading to Understandable Outcomes
  • Transform How Oversight Is Delivered

The Board is now seeking input on six draft strategic goals and related objectives for the organization’s 2026-2030 strategic plan. Additional input from stakeholders will help the Board and staff further refine the strategic goals and objectives before the final plan is adopted later this year, alongside the PCAOB’s fiscal year 2027 budget.

The six draft goals are:

  1. Modernize Standard Setting and Implementation
  2. Modernize the Inspections and Registration Programs
  3. Sharpen Enforcement Focus on Conduct Harmful to Investors
  4. Deepen Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
  5. Modernize Oversight Through Technology and Data
  6. Strengthen Organizational Effectiveness and Stewardship

How to Provide Comments on the Draft Goals and Objectives

The deadline for comments on the draft goals and objectives is September 4, 2026. Comments can be provided via the following methods:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Postal mail: Office of the Secretary, PCAOB, 1666 K Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006-2803
