C. Gregory Scates

Greg Scates is the Acting Director of the Office of Outreach and Small Business Liaison for the PCAOB, which is responsible for executing the Board's outreach strategy, with a particular focus on the small business community. This office also is responsible for planning and conducting a program of forums for auditors of small businesses and smaller broker-dealers.

Prior to assuming this role, he oversaw a number of PCAOB inspections in the Division of Registration and Inspections assessing firms' compliance with professional standards and applicable laws and rules. Mr. Scates also, while serving as Deputy Chief Auditor in the Office of the Chief Auditor, provided technical direction in the development of the Board's standards. He joined the PCAOB in 2003.

Prior to joining the PCAOB, Mr. Scates served in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he investigated allegations of financial fraud and violations of federal securities laws. Before joining the SEC, he worked with international accounting firms for approximately 17 years, including two years in a firm's national office assisting with the development and implementation of firm audit policies and providing technical assistance to practice offices.

Mr. Scates earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of Tennessee at Martin and an M.S. from George Mason University. He is a certified public accountant in Tennessee.
