Sarah Williams


Sarah Williams is a deputy director in the Division of Registration and Inspections responsible for the registration program. Ms. Williams oversees all aspects of the registration and reporting process for public accounting firms. She was named to this post in March 2007 after joining the PCAOB in May 2003 as an associate director.

Prior to arriving at the PCAOB, Ms. Williams was an associate general counsel at the National Association of Securities Dealers (now FINRA), where she drafted rules, interpretive guidance and policy positions concerning the regulation of broker-dealers. Previously, she spent seven years at the Securities and Exchange Commission. She served as Counsel to SEC Commissioner Isaac Hunt, Jr. after five years in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, first as a staff attorney and subsequently as a Branch Chief.  Ms. Williams started her law career as an associate at the Washington law firm of Arnold & Porter.

Ms. Williams earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
