The International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators and Other International Organizations

International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators

The PCAOB is a member of the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR). IFIAR's stated purpose is to enable independent audit regulators to share among each other their knowledge and experiences, with a focus on inspections of auditors and audit firms. Created in 2006, IFIAR holds one plenary and one interim meeting each year, in addition to periodic meetings of its six working groups.

The PCAOB is a member of IFIAR’s Advisory Council and an active participant in each working group.  PCAOB Board Member Lewis H. Ferguson currently holds the chairmanship of IFIAR’s Global Audit Quality Working Group, which coordinates IFIAR’s dialogue with the six largest international audit firm networks.  PCAOB Director of Enforcement Claudius Modesti serves as Vice Chair of IFIAR’s Enforcement Working Group, which facilitates exchange of perspectives among IFIAR members’ enforcement officials on effective approaches for investigating and adjudicating alleged auditor misconduct, as well as emerging trends in such enforcement matters. PCAOB staff lead IFIAR’s Inspection Findings Survey Task Force, which prepares IFIAR’s annual survey of its members' inspection findings.

The IFIAR membership consists of 50 independent audit regulators from around the world. Observers include: Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, European Commission, Financial Stability Board, International Association of Insurance Supervisors, International Organization of Securities Commissions, Public Interest Oversight Board, and World Bank.  More information about IFIAR can be found at IFIAR's website.

Other International Organizations

The PCAOB is also involved, as an observer, in a number of international organizations, whose work relates to aspects of the PCAOB's oversight responsibilities.
