Brent A. Simer
Board Adviser to Board Member Duane M. DesParte
Brent A. Simer is Board Adviser to Board Member Duane M. DesParte and advises him on all matters that come before the Board.
Mr. Simer was most recently the PCAOB’s Acting Chief of Staff where he advised Acting Chairperson Duane M. DesParte, and subsequently Chair Erica Y. Williams, on all matters that came before the Board. He also assisted with management of the organization.
Mr. Simer joined the PCAOB in August 2018 as Adviser to Board Member Duane M. DesParte, after working as a senior manager in the Americas Professional Practice group of Ernst & Young LLP (EY). At EY, he was responsible for system of quality control matters, including executing the firm’s root cause analysis process. He was also involved in various regulatory and audit quality initiatives.
Prior to EY, Mr. Simer was a manager in Deloitte LLP’s Regulatory & Professional Matters group, where he developed firm positions on regulatory and public policy issues and participated in standard-setting activities. Earlier, he spent several years with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP and Veris Consulting, LLC, where he provided forensic accounting and litigation support services.
Mr. Simer received a Bachelor of Science in finance and marketing from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia, Washington, DC, and Ohio, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner. Mr. Simer graduated from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Leadership Academy in 2012 and was named a Top 5 CPA Under 35 by the Virginia Society of CPAs in 2014.
