Joshua T. White is the PCAOB’s Acting Chief Economist and Director of its Office of Economic and Risk Analysis (OERA). In this role, Dr. White is responsible for advising and assisting the Board by conducting independent, evidence-based economic and risk analyses to inform its oversight activities, including inspections, investigations, rulemaking, standard setting, and post-implementation reviews. 

Dr. White is currently on leave from his position as an Assistant Professor of Finance at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. He was a Senior Advisor in OERA from June 2024 to April 2025. 

Dr. White previously served as a Financial Economist, Visiting Academic Scholar, and Expert Consultant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission between 2012 and 2018. He was also on the faculty at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business from 2014 to 2017.  

Dr. White holds a B.S., MBA, and Ph.D. in finance from the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business, where he was awarded the Outstanding Ph.D. Alumnus Award in 2018. Dr. White has testified before the U.S. Congress on corporate governance and disclosure topics.
