Marc B. Dorfman, Chief Hearing Officer, presides as an impartial initial adjudicator of disciplinary charges brought by the Division of Enforcement and Investigations against registered public accounting firms and persons associated with those firms, as well as certain proceedings involving applications for registration. Mr. Dorfman’s appointment was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and he was sworn in on April 8, 2019.
Prior to joining the PCAOB in October 2013, Mr. Dorfman was a litigation partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, where he represented parties in Securities and Exchange Commission and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority investigations, enforcement actions, and appeals. He also handled securities arbitration cases, represented audit committees and special committees of boards of directors in conducting internal investigations, and appeared as an expert witness in securities regulation matters.
Since 2002, Mr. Dorfman also has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches a course on SEC enforcement and litigation. Previously, Mr. Dorfman was a trial attorney and special counsel in the SEC Division of Enforcement, where he handled a wide variety of investigations and enforcement actions.
Mr. Dorfman received an A.B., magna cum laude, from Yale University, and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
