Michael Stevenson

Michael Stevenson is Chief Counsel in the Division of Registration and Inspections, providing counsel on legal and policy issues to the DRI Director and DRI staff.
Mr. Stevenson served in the PCAOB’s Office of the General Counsel from 2003 to 2018, including as Deputy General Counsel for 11 years, and in 2023 returned to the PCAOB to join DRI. He has also practiced at a large law firm, as a litigator for a nonprofit civil rights organization, in both the Division of Enforcement and the Office of the General Counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission, and as a partner in a law firm representing whistleblowers in the whistleblower programs of the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He began his career as a law clerk for Judge Cornelia G. Kennedy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Mr. Stevenson holds a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and a B.A. in legal and political philosophy from Michigan State University.
