Juan Mao

Juan Mao was a Senior Economic Research Fellow in the Office of Economic and Risk Analysis, at the PCAOB between September 2023 and December 2024. She is currently an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She obtained her PhD in Accounting from the University of Kansas in 2013 and has received doctoral training in both Accounting and Information Systems.

Professor Mao’s main research interests are in group audits, internal controls, financial misreporting, audit partners, and regulatory and legal risks of public companies and audit firms. She has published several papers in Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory among others. She is currently on the editorial board of the AAA journal Current Issues in Auditing.
