Washington, D.C., Feb. 12, 2003

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB or Board) announced today that it has appointed J. Gordon Seymour as Acting General Counsel. Mr. Seymour comes to the Board from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he served as assistant general counsel for legislation.

"We are delighted to have Gordon join the Board," said Charles D. Niemeier, Acting Chairman. "His expertise and experience will be of great assistance in many ways as the Board moves forward on its mission." Mr. Seymour will serve in this capacity until the appointment by the Board of a permanent General Counsel. The Board’s search for a permanent General Counsel is continuing.

Mr. Seymour joined the SEC general counsel’s office in 1997. Before that, he was in private practice at the law firm of Williams & Connolly, from 1995 to 1997. He also served as law clerk to the Honorable Ralph K. Winter, Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

A 1989 graduate of Yale University, he earned his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1993.
