Jackie Cottrell Named PCAOB Director of Office of External Affairs
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) announced today that Jackie Cottrell has been named director of the Office of External Affairs, which leads the PCAOB’s communications, government affairs, and outreach efforts. Ms. Cottrell succeeds Torrie Matous, who was named the PCAOB’s chief of staff in March.
"The Board remains deeply committed to enhancing our external engagement and communications, and Jackie brings many years of proven leadership and expertise in these areas," said PCAOB Chairman William D. Duhnke. “We are fortunate to have her on our team, and we look forward to working with her as we continue to advance our strategic priorities.”
Ms. Cottrell has more than 25 years of experience in government, corporate, and non-profit environments. Prior to joining the PCAOB, she served as the chief of staff for Senator Pat Roberts for 18 years, where she oversaw all policy, communications, and constituent relations activities. Cottrell previously served as press secretary for the House Agriculture Committee and later as the communications director in Roberts’ Senate office. She also worked in senior communications roles at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and was press secretary for Representatives Tom Tauke and Scott Klug.
“Under Chairman Duhnke’s leadership, the PCAOB has placed great value on improving communications and emphasizing greater engagement with key stakeholders," said Ms. Cottrell. "Strong outreach is even more critical now as we navigate our mission during a pandemic. I look forward to supporting the Board and leading the staff in the Office of External Affairs as we build on the important work that has been done to date."
Cottrell received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English from Wellesley College and her Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri – Columbia.
The Board thanks the PCAOB's Deputy Director of External Affairs and Stakeholder Liaison, Erin Dwyer, for her work as Acting Director over the past several months. Under Ms. Dwyer’s leadership, the Board has continued to actively communicate with stakeholders during the COVID-19 crisis.
