Saba Qamar Named Investor Advocate at the PCAOB

Washington, Jun. 7, 2022

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) announced today that Sabahat Qamar has been appointed the PCAOB’s Investor Advocate. In this newly created role, Ms. Qamar will be responsible for maintaining and expanding the PCAOB’s engagement with the investor community, as well as serving as the organization’s primary point of contact for this critical stakeholder group.

“Because investor protection is so central to the PCAOB’s mission, we must engage continually with investors, investor advocates, and others who play a key role or have expertise in our capital markets,” said PCAOB Chair Erica Y. Williams. “As our first-ever Investor Advocate, Saba will enhance our engagement and amplify investor voices thanks to her vast knowledge of investor protection issues and her outstanding experience both interacting directly with investors and advocating on their behalf.”

Most recently, Ms. Qamar served as Senior Financial Analyst in the Division of Complex Institution Supervision and Resolution at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In this capacity, she advised FDIC executives on numerous policy issues and built relationships with investors, U.S. and non-U.S. regulators, professional associations, academics, professional organizations, and others. Ms. Qamar previously served at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and held positions across the government where she advocated for the interests of investors.

“PCAOB oversight helps investors have confidence that audit reports are informative, accurate, and independent,” said Ms. Qamar. “I am honored to join this organization, and I look forward to engaging in a dynamic dialogue to ensure that the PCAOB benefits from a full range of investor perspectives.”

Ms. Qamar graduated with a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and holds J.D. and MBA degrees from Suffolk University’s Law School and its Sawyer Business School.

She will join the PCAOB on July 11, 2022.
