Board Member Botic To Host Jersey City Forum for Auditors of Small Businesses and Auditors of Broker-Dealers
Continuing the PCAOB’s series of events tailored to smaller audit firms, the May 1st event will provide information and resources on key topics and developments related to audit quality
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) announced today that PCAOB Board Member George R. Botic will host an in-person forum on auditing in the small business environment and on auditing broker-dealers on May 1, 2025. The one-day event – part of a series of 2025 forums – will take place at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City in Jersey City, New Jersey.
“Auditors of smaller companies and broker-dealers serve a critical role within our capital market,” said Board Member Botic. “I look forward to hearing from and engaging with these auditors to further our investor protection mission through enhancing audit quality.”
Tailored to PCAOB-registered firms auditing smaller public companies or broker-dealers, the forums provide a unique opportunity for auditors to interact with representatives from the PCAOB and other regulators.
In addition to remarks from Board Member Botic, the agenda includes the following:
- Presentations by PCAOB staff from the Office of the Chief Auditor, the Division of Registration and Inspections, and the Division of Enforcement and Investigations;
- Presentation of illustrative examples related to audit risks associated with revenue, the auditor’s responsibility to identify and communicate critical audit matters to investors, heightened risk of fraud, and the importance of journal entry testing;
- Discussion of resources that the PCAOB has recently released to assist and inform auditors in their implementation QC 1000, A Firm’s System of Quality Control, and other standards.
- Presentations by staff of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
