Board Member Botic to Host Second 2024 PCAOB Forum for Auditors of Small Businesses and Broker-Dealers in Los Angeles, June 5

The June 5 event will take place after Chair Williams launches the 2024 series of forums to provide information and resources to small firms in Chicago in May

Washington, DC, May 2, 2024

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) announced today that the second of its in-person 2024 forums on auditing in the small business environment and on auditing broker-dealers will take place in Los Angeles on June 5, 2024. The one-day event will be hosted by Board Member George R. Botic at Loyola Marymount University.

These forums are tailored to PCAOB-registered firms that audit smaller public companies or broker-dealers. They offer a unique opportunity where firms can interact directly with representatives from the PCAOB as well as other regulators in an educational setting.

“I believe strongly that dialogue and outreach with stakeholders are critical to helping the PCAOB protect investors effectively,” said Board Member Botic. “I’m looking forward to hosting this event and engaging with and hearing from auditors of small businesses and broker-dealers.”

In 2024, each of the five PCAOB Board Members will host a forum in a different city across the country, starting with Chair Erica Y. Williams in Chicago on May 22, 2024. Following Board Member Botic’s June 5 forum in Los Angeles, additional forums will be hosted in the fall by Board Member Kara M. Stein (Denver), Board Member Christina Ho (Miami), and Board Member Anthony C. Thompson (Jersey City). Exact dates and locations will be announced as those events get closer.

At each forum, participants will receive a refresher on various auditing requirements and learn about new requirements that will become applicable in the near future. In addition to remarks from PCAOB Board Members, the agenda includes the following:

  • Presentations by PCAOB staff from the Office of the Chief Auditor, the Division of Registration and Inspections, and the Division of Enforcement and Investigations
  • Illustrative examples related to revenue, critical audit matters, and fraud/journal entries, among other topics
  • Presentations by staff of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the Securities and Exchange Commission

The forums in Chicago and Jersey City will be livestreamed, and recordings of all five forums will be made available on the PCAOB’s website.
